IEC Telecom and Inmarsat to Host Panel Session on ‘Navigating Connectivity while at Sea’

03 Oct 2018

September, 2018, Dubai, UAE – IEC Telecom, one of the leading global providers of managed network communication solutions, along with Inmarsat, a pioneer of mobile satellite communications will jointly host a panel discussion at Seatrade Maritime Middle East on October 29th, 2018 from 12 noon – 01.30 pm at Breakout Theatre, Hall 6 of Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC), Dubai.

The session will highlight the top industry experts such as Drew Brandy, Senior Vice President Market Strategy, Inmarsat Maritime; Nabil Ben Soussia, Managing Director, IEC Telecom Middle East; Gürkan Büyüktelli, Marine Superintendent Mercan Group.

Titled “Navigating Сonnectivity While at Sea”, the panel discussion will cover the importance of connectivity in today’s environment, in order to be able to retain crew and drive overall business productivity.

Today, connectivity is about more than just social media and web surfing. It is an area that is ripe for development and expansion. On a daily basis, more than 50,000 merchant ships cross the oceans with millions of cargo containers in tow, signaling the need for fast and efficient communications aboard vessels and between land and sea.

The ability to connect is becoming a default setting and a prerequisite to function in daily life. More importantly, connectivity is directly responsible for business efficiency and productivity.

To address critical communication needs for businesses at sea, it is important that all segments, including bulk carriers, container ships, cargo, tankers, FPSOs, fishing vessels, cruise ships and yachting and leisure are covered. This includes issues relating to network flexibility, budgets, crew welfare and remote management and support.

Fundamentally there are no longer any technological or financial barriers to providing decent connectivity at sea. The same advances that have propelled the networked economy on land have allowed satellite operators to significantly improve both the capability and flexibility of their offerings to the maritime sector as well. This has been achieved by bringing down the cost of basic vessel connectivity to approximately 0.3% of the total cost of operating a vessel.

With over 90% of worldwide trade served by the maritime market, vessels at sea rely on broadband connectivity and VSAT technology to stay in touch with operations on land, increase work productivity and improve the quality of life for the over 1 million seafarers that are the backbone of the maritime industry.

The ability to facilitate improved crew communications, online access and seamless operational performance is driving demand for new solutions, accelerating a new era for maritime connectivity.
