Cyber security, back-up systems, and business continuity take centrestage in the maritime sector

28 Nov 2023

Crew communications, including internet access, have become an expectation, particularly following the pandemic, and are set to become mandatory in the near future. In a conversation with Robban Assafina, Daria Boiko, Director – Distribution Channel, IEC Telecom Group, said, “The satellite communications sector is undergoing a period of rapid transformation with the introduction of new low earth orbit (LEO) constellations. Maintaining business continuity is essential these days, and the best way to achieve this is by having a hybrid solution operating over multiple networks.” IEC Telecom has developed a state-of-the-art network management solution – OneGate – to meet this demand as well as a set of optimised applications, including ONETeam video conferencing, ONEMonitor video surveillance, ONEAssist remote maintenance, and ONEHealth telemedicine. In such an environment, back-up systems and bespoke cyber security solutions have become important elements to ensure operational connectivity. Boiko added, “There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Hybrid solutions are being adapted to specific vessel and crew requirements. OneGate enables advanced filtration with different levels of access to avoid cross-contamination and ensure that critical operations are managed by qualified professionals.” Read more about uninterrupted connectivity in a rapidly evolving maritime landscape in the ARTICLE below.
