Accelerating Malaysia’s Economic Growth through LEO Connectivity

Accelerating Malaysia’s Economic Growth through LEO Connectivity

Malaysia’s foreign investment is hitting record highs, and the country is fast becoming a regional hub attracting investments from tech giants like Google and Microsoft. However, sustaining this momentum depends on one thing: Reliable connectivity that reaches beyond the big cities. In a recent feature for Telecom Review Asia, IEC Telecom sheds light on how Starlink’s satellite technology is acting as a catalyst for this next phase of growth.

While fibre and 5G are expanding, large gaps remain in rural plantations and offshore industrial sites. This digital divide risks creating a lopsided economy. Starlink’s Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) network solves this by bringing high-speed internet to the most remote areas, allowing businesses to finally adopt tools like precision farming, real-time tracking, and cloud analytics.

“Connectivity is directly linked to competitiveness,” says Hisham Ghaffar, Managing Director of IEC Telecom Malaysia. He points out that this isn’t just about business, but also about opening up telemedicine for rural clinics and e-learning for remote schools, making sure no community is left behind.

With 30 years of global experience and nearly 20 years in the APAC region, IEC Telecom recently opened its Malaysia office to support this surge in demand. Antoine Veillon, Group CEO, notes that the country’s supportive policies and dynamic market make it a perfect fit for long-term infrastructure projects. By merging Starlink with local expertise, IEC Telecom is helping Malaysia build a digital backbone that works for the entire country.
