Iridium Communications, Inc. operates the world’s largest commercial mesh architecture of 66 cross-linked Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites and provides truly global voice and data communication solutions, including airways, polar regions, and oceans. Renowned for the Certus, an advanced multi-service platform, and the Short Burst Data (SBD) transceiver, Iridium has extended the reach of terrestrial and cellular infrastructure to every corner of the Earth via both handsets and installed communications systems.

IEC Telecom and Iridium

IEC Telecom and Iridium formed a strategic alliance in 2013. IEC Telecom became an Iridium Master Distributor and has since worked closely with Iridium to offer commercial satellite communications solutions.

In 2019, IEC Telecom also signed a partnership with Iridium to deliver Iridium Certus℠, a next-generation satellite broadband solution for land and maritime applications. For the maritime sector this means access to reliable, high-quality satellite connectivity, anywhere on the planet, regardless of the size of the vessel or its data needs. The humanitarian sector and land-based customers will benefit from an enhanced user experience, thanks to the system’s greater mobility and very low levels of latency – giving them real-time communications with less room for error.

Founded in 1986, Viasat is a global communications company that provides internet access to communities where terrestrial infrastructure is not available as well as delivers secure connectivity services to the military sector. With humble beginnings in 1990’s VTS-3000 satcom test system, Viasat has grown from strength to strength – the first Ku-band broadband service for business jets in 2003, the most popular VSAT terminal SurfBeam in 2007, the highest capacity satellite in the world in 2011. IEC Telecom is part of Viasat’s Elevate Program. Inmarsat is a leading provider of global mobile satellite communications and offers a broad portfolio of connectivity services and value-added solutions. Set up in 1979, Inmarsat owns and operates 13 satellites that deliver L-band broadband, high-speed Ka-band, and WiFi S-band services. Today, Inmarsat’s fifth generation Ka-band satellites power Global Xpress, which is the world’s first and only globally available mobile broadband service that is delivered through a single wholly-owned network to ensure seamless connectivity. The sixth generation fleet is planned to be the first to feature dual-payload satellites, each supporting L-band and Ka-band services as well as capabilities ranging from advanced global safety services to the Internet of Things (IoT).

IEC Telecom and Inmarsat formed a strategic alliance in 1999. Further strengthening their 15-year long relationship, IEC Telecom became an Inmarsat Global Xpress Value-Added Reseller in 2014 as well as a Tier 2 (Gold) Partner for HTS services in the energy, media, and NGO sectors. This also served to expand IEC Telecom’s VSAT capabilities.

In 2016, IEC Telecom became an Inmarsat Fleet Xpress Value-Added Reseller to deliver revolutionary fully integrated solutions over both Global Xpress Ka-band and FleetBroadband L-band.

Eutelsat provides premium satellite coverage to Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas with its 35 satellites. Formed in 1977 via an order of the European Space Agency (ESA), Eutelsat is renowned as an innovative operator in the commercial satellite sector and especially focuses on the development of digital services. It transformed into a private company in 2001, went public in 2005, and has since expanded its broadcast services. Eutelsat provides unrivalled bandwidth for media-rich services and offers aeronautical service providers with top-quality in-flight broadband services. Reflecting its continued growth in scalable digital services, Eutelsat ADVANCE is an end-to-end managed connectivity service purposefully designed for business continuity. This high-speed network delivers seamless integration of Ku- and Ka-band capacity as well as secure back-haul services.

Thuraya is the UAE’s first home grown mobile satellite operator. Its merger with Yahsat has expanded its portfolio across commercial and government sectors, and led to the launch of Thuraya X5-Touch, the world’s first Android-based satellite and GSM phone with a full HD screen. Thuraya’s satellites serve 160+ countries, provide communication solutions for energy, maritime, aerospace, humanitarian, and broadcast media, and its network offers uninterrupted coverage by MSS, quasi-global VSAT, and GSM.

IEC Telecom and Thuraya began a partnership in 2001 and became Sales Partners. They have worked together in the Maritime and Humanitarian markets in Europe, Asia, and Africa, and developed solutions like VSAT+, Orion Edge, and Orion Edge+.

As one of Thuraya’s strategic partners, IEC Telecom’s high performance has reflected in awards such as the Thuraya Certified Gold Partner 2012 – Land Data, Best Performance Maritime 2014, Best Performance Maritime 2018, and more.

Yahsat is the first multipurpose satellite service provider in the MENA region and made history with the launch of UAE’s first satellite, Al Yah 1, in 2011. With the launch of Al Yah 3 in 2018, Yahsat has expanded its commercial Ka-band coverage to 20 additional markets. Through partnerships with Thuraya and Hughes, Yahsat delivers comprehensive mobile and fixed satellite services for the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Central and South West Asia, and Brazil. Its YahLive solution has been hailed as a broadcasting revolution, and its partnership with Khalifa University has created the first multidisciplinary space programme in the UAE.

IEC Telecom and Yahsat began their long-term partnership in 2009, and in 2012, IEC Telecom became an International Service Provider for Yahsat in the Middle East and African regions.

Founded in 1855, Telenor is one of the largest mobile operators across Scandinavia and Asia. Its premium satellite services from 1°West operate broadcast and data for the leading antenna suppliers on land and at sea. Telenor Satellite works on a hybrid network of satellite, teleport, and terrestrial fibre to provide reliable communications in remote locations. Starting with THOR 5 in 2008 to THOR 7 in 2015, Telenor Satellite has increased its coverage across Europe and the Middle East and its services range from raw satellite capacity to fully managed VSAT, teleport, and remote hands on support. The launch of an online portal, Mini Bridge, allows onboard data management, and the Newtec Dialog platform provides more scalable HTS in new verticals for hub based technology.

IEC Telecom and Telenor Satellite began a partnership in 2003, before Vizada was founded. In 2016, they also included maritime and land VSAT. Since then, they have been working together in the maritime market in Europe, offering Ka-band connectivity to ship owners. With Telenor’s network, IEC Telecom offers a fast and reliable connection in line with existing solutions for maximum user experience.

Today, IEC Telecom offers a full portfolio with land and maritime KU/KA and LTE from Telenor.
